For a vast majority of us, the coronation of King Charles will mark the first time we see a new monarch take the throne. A huge moment in British history, it is surely paramount to celebrate such a momentous occasion. It’s a time to gather friends, family and everyone in between to toast to new beginnings and a new chapter in history. But how to celebrate the King’s Coronation? Whether you’re staying in, or celebrating with a street party, we have a few ideas.
What is the coronation of King Charles III and what will happen?
The coronation of Charles will mark the first official moment that the king takes the throne. The event will take place at Westminster Abbey in London on the 6th of May beginning at 11 am BST. Following its beginning, the King and Queen Consort will arrive at the Abbey in a procession, watched on by thousands of people in attendance. The ceremony itself will include numerous traditional moments, such as the King being anointed with consecrated oil, delivering of the royal orb and finally, taking the throne itself.
How to celebrate the King’s Coronation
Bake a Coronation cake – To celebrate the King’s Coronation, why not consider sharing a cake with your friends and family? To add a patriotic twist on things, why not add red, white and blue icing? Or for something more traditional, baking a Victoria sponge is particularly appropriate, especially considering it’s named after Charles’ great-great-grandmother.
Coronation Tea Party – There are few things that seem more British than having a tea party. Celebrate how the royals do this Coronation by sharing a tea party with your loved ones or a neighbour – a perfect way to build community during this key piece moment in history!
Coronation Street Party – The UK has a long history of organised street parties to celebrate national and royal events. Why not immerse yourself fully into the royal spirit and organise one amongst your neighbours to celebrate the Coronation? They are a great way for neighbours and communities to get to know each other, bonding over food, drinks, dancing and music.
