One of the oldest herbs and spices on record, coriander has long been used in cooking all across the world due to its unique taste. A member of the parsley family, the coriander plant can grow up to three feet tall, producing white flowers and light brown seeds. Though these are often referred to using the same umbrella term, the two hold distinct properties and taste profiles. Whilst coriander seeds are often used to cook baked dishes or curries, the leaves are often added as a last-minute garnish within foods such as tacos or stir-fries. However, whilst coriander is widely known for its role in cooking, did you know that it can also be a delicious and highly nutritious addition to your tea?
The benefits of drinking coriander in tea
Producing a unique earthy yet spicy flavour, coriander delivers a distinct taste when added to tea. On top of this, consuming it can help yield numerous benefits to help you keep your body strong and healthy.
Coriander is rich in vitamin C, a vitamin essential to help maintain a healthy immune system. Drinking coriander tea regularly can therefore be greatly beneficial in helping you boost your immunity and help protect you from various diseases and infections. The herb is also packed full of antioxidants, which help combat your risk of developing chronic diseases such as cancer or diabetes.
The herb is also great for your cardiovascular health. With ingredients that work towards helping lower cholesterol, regularly consuming coriander within your tea can help reduce your risk of developing heart disease or suffering from a stroke.
Additionally, coriander has been found to be beneficial to the digestive system. Containing many essential oils, its properties allow it to stimulate the digestive system, making it an effective remedy for issues such as bloating and gas, as well as inflammation within the gut.
How we are sustainably farming coriander for our tea
Sustainability has always been at the heart of all of our practices at English Tea Shop and this is no different when it comes to coriander. Our coriander is sourced from India, which is the perfect place to cultivate the herb. Its growth performs most optimally within a temperature range of 20-30°C, in conditions of well-drained loamy soils with a PH range of between 6 to 8. The best seasons to grow the plant are in the summer months of June to July as well as later in the year between October to November, however, we regularly adapt our sourcing practices based on our forecast models.

Coriander can be found in our Happy Me blend. In this blend, the coriander combines expertly with the citrussy tones of lemongrass and the spice of root ginger to develop a fruity fragrance that leaves you eager to taste! This is added to by the flavours and aromas of apples and oranges, coming together to form a well-balanced brew that pairs perfectly with spicy foods but is ultimately fantastic for all occasions.
